June '11 | Why we should care about women social entrepreneurs

Welcome!

to the June 2011 edition of our micro-magazine.

Through conversations and inspiring meetings i had this month with awards finalists and peers in the social innovation field, i am definitely convinced that there is a a simple organic tool you can use to test where you are at and to make change happen: Connections, Competence, Confidence.

Without this package, there will always be something missing.
If someone invests in you (time, money), do they also take time to help you grow your confidence?
If you make new connections, how does this help you grow or share your competences...?
What are your competences for if you can't share them to wider audiences, your peers or your clients?

More about this here.

Why I Care About Women and Social Enterprise

By Servane Mouazan

" Social enterprise is a lifestyle rather than just a job. In essence, men and women who set up and develop social enterprises share similar motives – they are in it because they care and want to make a difference. A recent study shows that women are more likely to be engaged in social entrepreneurial activity than they are in mainstream entrepreneurial activity ".

" In my work I aspire to create fresh and creative alternatives to our prevalent lifestyle which offer not only social and environmental benefits but also illustrate appealing, sensual, experiential and inspirational products, services and systems "

What are your top 3 Tips to a woman who, like you, tries to solve crucial social and environmental issues through design?
Adital: i) Connect to your own passion as a guide to choosing a theme you would like to focus on and stay with it for a while..
ii) Choose a narrow and focused goal and find the depth within it
iii) Allow yourself NOT to know that will enable the answers to come.

Collaborative Fund

Collaborative aims to be the leading source of capital and strategic support for creative entrepreneurs who want to change the world. The fund focuses on two themes: the increasing importance of values as they relate to the decisions we make about who we work for, what we buy, and how we spend our time; and the shift from an economy based on hyper-consumption to one based on Collaborative Consumption.

After all this, do you have something new, beautiful and bold to say?
