"In a nutshell we want something quite simple. We want girls to have a choice to be whatever they want to be. We are determined that this obsession with looks, fame and wealth (which we describe as the 'culture of pink') should be challenged. We are currently focusing the campaign by identifying some specific targets - retailers, particular products etc - which we think are particularly damaging. We won't divulge details yet, but watch this space. Most importantly we know that we need to focus our efforts over the next few months in order to keep the task manageable"
Abi and I are both very enthusiastic and passionate about what we do. Working together - as twins - means we can support each other, keep our motivation up, and have a tiny bit of a competitive streak, which keeps us on our toes. We also never want to let each other down - which means we can keep going even when we are both exhausted! We've been amazed at the response to our campaign, though we had an inkling we may have hit on something fairly early on. And it's been truly humbling to meet so many other fantastic women - and men - throughout the course of our campaign. Truly inspiring to see that people all over the place are putting their hearts and souls into making positive change.
Networking has been absolutely critical to our success so far. We have made so many contacts along the way. Being involved with UnLtd was pivotal and gave us confidence but also access to so many great people. Social networks online have proven to be very successful. Of course Facebook and Twitter...but our blog has been very powerful too.
Nothing beats the face-to-face contact of an event though. So a particular mention again to UnLtd, but also the Everywoman network, which introduced us to some great inspirational women.
