How neutral can you be? We liked the Cheatneutral.com stunt by Christian Hunt and Alex Randall, who work for an environmental charity in Machynlleth, Mid Wales. The principle is that you can "offset" your infidelity by supporting "monogamy-boosting offset projects", or someone who will stay faithful for you, with someone else! It's a joke, of course, and a bitter one, as it underlines the unsustainable side of the carbon offsetting principle. We welcome that stunt because we encourage people to think of who they really are and what they really need, rather than to be hyper-consumers and buy this modern type of indulgence. More in depth and neutral explanation of the Carbon-offset process on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon_offset
Consume less, feel happy! What people do, here and there, to consume less and still feel happy: They refuse to buy a NEW bag labelled "this is not a plastic bag", because it is JUST ANOTHER bag and they already have plenty of them at home. In Holland and France (you read well, France), big supermarket s simply don't provide bags. That's it. Problem solved. If it worked there, it can work anywhere. In Germany and Ireland, consumers have also legally returned trolleys full of packaging to the shops, or bought the goods, leaving the plastic and cardboard in the store! As a result, it also decreased the quantity of domestic litter. Over with the tagged bin! This is called authentic solution-focused living and the same way we once learned to brush our teeth because it was good for us, we can also simplify our lives and be true to ourselves in 1, 2, 3, steps.
Asking Better Questions To make your life simpler, start with asking different questions! - Will that thing make me a better person? - If I didn't know it existed, could I still be happy? - Will my world collapse if I don't have it? - What can I easily do instead that won't have a negative impact on other communities? More questions, brainstorming ideas and why they do work on our blog http://ogunte.blogspot.com
